However, there are a few things to remember for the big day. Tradition has it that you will escort the bride to the wedding (and tradition is a wonderful thing here), and then lead her arm in arm into the hall or church, and down the isle.
After ‘dropping her off’ at the altar, you’ll retire to sit back with the bride's mother for the rest of the service. (You may have a part to play during the service – depending upon what type has been chosen).
Following the service, you'll then travel to the reception where you are the official host. You’ll stand in line next to your daughter to greet your guests (if you choose this), and will then kick off the speeches with your Father of the Bride speech, welcoming everyone to the reception.
Following the first dance, you may join the wedding couple and dance with your wife or your daughter – and for the rest of the evening you’ll be mixing with the guests, helping people fill their empty drinks glasses and thanking them for coming.
As the official host of the wedding reception, normally you say goodbye to all the departing guests and traditionally are the last person to leave the reception.
Then the day after… recover… and congratulate yourself on a job well done!
